The team at LS Speech Pathology believe that early intervention is the key to detecting and treating communication difficulties.
They are in the process of setting up a playgroup aimed at children who may be at risk of language delay to provide general strategies and support for building communication in our little ones.
Director and speech pathologist Lorelle Savage said the playgroup could help parents who have already identified there is a problem, but can't afford therapy at the moment, or could suit people who are already accessing therapy.
If it's successful, we would like to continue it and grow it so that we can provide something back to the community,
- Lorelle Savage.
"We want to run the playgroup as a largely free service, gold coin donation, yet have it facilitated by a speech pathologist," she said.
"This is something we are trying to get up and running for the community and hopefully reach some of those people who wouldn't normally be able to access our services or know about them."
LS Speech Pathology plans to use funding from the Quota International of Jimboomba to start the playgroup.
"If it's successful, we would like to continue it and grow it so that we can provide something back to the community."
LS Speech Pathology is based in Cedar Grove with further clinics in Yarrabilba and Logan Village providing assessment, diagnosis and treatment of most areas of speech and language pathology.
This includes speech sounds, receptive and expressive language, reading and writing, stuttering, voice and difficulties eating or drinking.
A local herself, Lorelle has close relationships with GPs, daycare centers and schools in the area and is passionate about being able to provide networks close to home.
"I don't have time to drive myself or my family around the countryside for therapy or treatments, and I hope we can continue to build what we offer the community.
"We would always refer our clients to other local providers, and these other providers are also the ones that we have connections with, so it makes sense that we all continue to stick together and work together."
