LOCAL roller skater Isabelle Podlich took home a bronze medal after competing in the 2019 World Skate Oceania Roller Skating Championships in Melbourne this month.
The Greenbank teenager qualified for the event following her performance at the Australian Artistic Roller Skating Championships in June this year.
Podlich, 14, clinched a spot on the podium in the Cadet Ladies Freeskating event, where she was up against five Australian and four Kiwi competitors.
She also contested the Cadet Ladies Figures event and placed seventh.
The 2019 World Skate Oceania Roller Skating Championships was held from October 2 to October 6.
Podlich told the Jimboomba Times she was thrilled with her results.
"I did better than I thought I would. I didn't expect to place to be honest," she said.
"It is my first year and most (competitors) were in their second year."
Isabelle's mother, Viki Podlich, said her daughter trained 12 hours a week at the Inspirations Artistic Roller Skating and worked hard all year.
"She achieved overall first trophies in Cadet Ladies Freeskating for the 3 X Skate Queensland Leagues, first place at Queensland State Championships and fourth place at the Australian National Championships," she said.
Isabelle attends Parklands Christian College and has been involve din artistic roller skating over the past seven years.
She has been nominated as a candidate in the running to win the Young Sportsperson of the Year at the City of Logan Sports Awards on November 2 at the Logan Metro Sports & Events Centre from 6.30pm to 10.30pm.
Last year the accolade went to Jimboomba decathlete Ashley Moloney, who won gold at the 2018 World Under 20 Decathlon Championships in Finland.
