A SECONDARY crime scene has been established at Glenlogan after a ute was found on fire at Henderson Road one hour after a man was shot dead at Gleneagle.
Michael Menzel, 48, was shot in the leg and a 40-year-old man struck with a hammer during a violent home invasion at Brittany Court before 6am on Monday, October 14.
Paramedics were called to the scene but could not save Mr Menzel's life.
The 40-year-old man suffered minor injuries.
Mr Menzel's 13-year-old daughter was home during the incident and is in the care of family and friends.
Speaking to the media outside Logan Central Police Station this morning, Detective Acting Inspector Kenneth Murray said Mr Menzel's family were devastated by the brutal attack.
"The (13-year-old) child was present during this crime. I can only imagine how she is dealing with this," he said.
"We are offering her support. She is with family and friends.
"It is a terrible event, particularly for that child to see such a thing take place. It is horrible."
Police believe four people were involved in the home invasion and fled in a black ute with no registration plates via the Mount Lindesay Highway.
Mr Murray said the Brittany Court residence was still a crime scene but could not say whether the home invasion was drug related.
"We don't know the offenders. The offenders seem to have some knowledge of the victim," he said.
"It seems to have been a planned event, it wasn't random."
Mr Murray could not confirm whether a ute, found burnt out at Glenlogan at 7am was the same one used for the home invasion, but called on the public to report any suspicious behavior at Brittany Court and Henderson Road.
"If anyone has information or knowledge of this matter whether that is dashcam or CCTV footage, please come forward and speak to police or Crime Stoppers about this matter so we can resolve this offence," he said.
If you have information which can assist police contact Policelink 131 444 or Crime Stoppers 1800 333 000.
