FIREFIGHTERS holding the line as the Sarabah fire still burns have been handed a lifeline as a storm moved through the region yesterday.
A spokeswoman for Queensland Fire and Emergency Services said the storm brought enough rain to give firies the upper hand.
"There are a few stumps and logs still burning and there is a fire burning in Lamington National Park between Canungra and O'Reilly's in inaccessible land," she said.
"But the rain has stood firefighters in good stead and the situation has quietened down a lot."
The storm brought the first drop of rain for Beaudesert this month, dropping seven millimetres on the town.
Scenic Rim mayor Greg Christensen celebrated the occasion by recording himself singing and dancing in the rain.
The storm also delivered 7mm to Round Mountain, 5mm to Wyaralong dam, 4mm to Moogerah dam and 8mm to Kooralbyn.
In the fire zones, Beechmont received 4mm, Canungra 9mm, Illinbah 3mm, Numinbah Valley 8mm, O'Reilly's 5mm and Binna Burra 3mm.
The last substantial rain for Beaudesert was in March, when almost 212mm gave the town a good drenching.
This was followed by little more than 60mm in the past six months with 12.2mm recorded in April, 13.8mm in May, 19.4mm in June, 3.2mm in July and 13mm in August.
