THE Jimboomba Redbacks under 17s are on cloud nine after emerging victorious in their grand final against Calamvale on the weekend.
Assistant coach David Balmforth said conditions were far from perfect, with the Redbacks kicking into a strong wind in the first and third quarters.
Going into the second quarter three points behind, the Jimboomba girls were unable to get a clean shot at goal and Calamvale increased their lead.
The Redbacks were held scoreless in the third quarter.
Going into the last quarter, the girls knew it was their final shot at the premiership and were determined to give it their best shot.
Ruby Mann broke the Redbacks' goal drought, with Jes Draper following her lead.
A second goal from Mann and two more behinds was enough to pull ahead, and the Redbacks were crowned the under 17 champions by a seven point margin.
"After a previous close and tough match last week the girls knew that if they dug deep and stuck at it they had what it took to win the game," Mr Balmforth said.
"Spirits lifted with the return of Chloe Ackland, Bonnie Ryan (and) Lily Pearce."
Playing heavily stepped with a torn anterior cruciate ligament and winning best on ground was Josii Hargreaves.
"These girls showed true grit, will and determination and played their hearts out," Mr Balmforth said.
"An outstanding solid effort by all players. Well earned and well deserved."
The team will start summer training in November.
The club also plans to add a women's team in 2020 after the strong performance of its junior female sides.
Under 15
AFTER fighting hard to lead for three quarters, the under 15 team were bested by Wilston Grange in the final minutes of the game.
Topping the ladder earlier in the season, the girls fought their hardest but came away with a 34-27 loss.
Assistant coach Fred Meddings said it was not the result the team wanted nor deserved, but commended them on their efforts this season.
"On your journey in life you will be disappointed, you will win some and lose some, and that's got nothing to do with football," he said.
"This is character building, this is what makes you the person you're going to be. Now I know it's hurting everyone feels your pain, but it's time to pick yourself up, dust yourself off and get on with life."
Five of the team's players were new to the game and three were under 13.
Teagan Dare won best on ground in an effort Mr Meddings described as outstanding.
He also commended coaches Brenton Meddings, Troy Reilly and Josh Chalmers.
