THE Local Government Change Commission has revealed proposed changes to Logan City Council's divisional boundaries leading up to the March 2020 election.
This follows a review of local government boundaries earlier this year which found the number of voters in divisions four and eight would be out of quota without reform.
In a written submission, Local Government Minister Stirling Hitchliffe called on the Change Commission to consider population growth impacts on divisions four, nine and 11.
Public submissions included calls for suburbs stretching from Park Ridge to Beaudesert to be included in a new council area and for outer Logan suburbs to be transferred to Scenic Rim or Gold Coast City councils.
The Change Commission noted that the creation of new councils could have significant financial impacts on ratepayers.
No incumbents are recontesting the 2020 election due to the Queensland government's dismissal of all elected members in May this year.
Administrator Tamara O'Shea was appointed after seven former councillors and mayor Luke Smith were charged with integrity offences by the Crime and Corruption Commission.
Significant changes are in store for division four, previously held by Laurie Koranski, who will be a candidate in 2020.
Division four will lose Mundoolun and parts of Jimboomba and Logan Village to division nine, Bahrs Scrub to division six and Mount Warren Park to division 12.
It will gain Waterford and some of Bethania from division six.
Division 11, previously held by Trevina Schwarz, is also set for major changes with predictions that 21,194 more voters will reside within existing boundaries by 2024.
It will lose Riverbend, Glenlogan, Cedar Grove, Cedar Vale, Woodhill, Veresdale, Veresdale Scrub and parts of South Maclean and Jimboomba to division nine.
Greenbank and a portion of North Maclean, Munruben and Park Ridge South will be added to division 11.
High school teacher Natalie Willcocks has declared her intention to run for division 11.
Division nine, previously held by Phil Pidgeon, will lose a substantial number of voters under proposed boundaries due to extremely high levels of anticipated growth from residential developments.
Waterford West, Logan Reserve, Park Ridge South and Park Ridge will be lost as well as parts of Chambers Flat and Crestmead.
Former Logan City Council alderman Bob Lye intends to contest the division.
Division seven, previously held by Laurie Smith, will pick up Browns Plains and a portion of Regents Park.
Under proposed changes, it loses Park Ridge, Greenbank and portions of Park Ridge South, Munruben and North Maclean.
Division eight, previously held by former acting mayor Cherie Dalley, is expected to expand south and absorb high growth areas to bring it back up to quota.
Proposed boundaries include gaining Park Ridge, Logan Reserve and parts of Park Ridge South, Crestmead and Chambers Flat.
Browns Plains and some of Regents Park will be lost.
The Local Government Change Commission is accepting community feedback on the proposed changes until September 9 at 5pm.
