POLICE will ramp up patrols in the Jimboomba Police District next week as part of a campaign to crack down on reckless driving behaviour.
This comes after a two-vehicle crash on the Mount Lindesay Highway, near Regents Park, shortly after midnight on August 22.
A 19-year-old Wynnum woman was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol with a reading of 0.199, almost four times the legal limit.
She will appear in Beenleigh Magistrates Court on September 4.
Queensland Road Safety Week starts on Monday, August 26 and will continue until August 30.
Jimboomba police Senior Sergeant Peter Waugh said officers would educate motorists to be mindful of how speeding, intoxication, fatigue, distraction and failure to use seat belts can impact road safety.
"We have got Jimboomba Zaraffas to come on board to partner with us for Road Safety Week once again," he said.
"During the campaign we will be talking to the public about road safety and will also provide them with Zaraffas vouchers which can be used for a free coffee.
"You will see an increased police presence and we will set up messaging boards in different locations to promote road safety."
Police will focus on the theme of seat belts on Monday, speeding on Tuesday, fatigue on Wednesday, distraction on Thursday.
Senior Constable Hayden Wilson said motorists would receive a Zaraffas coffee voucher if they pass through alcohol and drug testing checkpoints on Friday.
"Fail these tests and the only voucher you will receive will be a notice to attend court," he said.
"Alcohol and drugs affect judgement, vision, coordination and reflexes, and increase the risk of crashing."
Last year, 30 people died and 1352 were seriously injured on Queensland roads as a result of driver distraction.
