FOR more than three years, Jimboomba State School has provided a training ground for firefighters to put their lifesaving skills into practice.
In appreciation of the partnership, Queensland Fire and Emergency Services presented Jimboomba State School with a certificate this week.
The Jimboomba Fire Station crew have conducted oval drills, shipped ladders on classroom buildings and completed swift water rescue training at the Jimboomba pool on a regular basis on late Tuesday afternoons.
This has helped new recruits and experienced firefighters develop and refresh their skills.
Jimboomba State School principal Tim Farrell said it made sense to work together with the neighbouring station.
"If we ever have a real incident, we will know the local firefighters have the best training because they picked it up at our school in our environment," he said.
Jimboomba Fire Station acting lieutenant Ross Cristaldi said school oval training was a major stepping stone for the crew.
"(Jimboomba State School) has provided ongoing support for many years, before I even started (at the station)," he said.
"Without the support of the school we would be struggling to find venues for training."
