LOGAN City Council mayoral candidate John Freeman has pledged to deliver outcomes for seniors if elected next year.
With Queensland Seniors Week festivities currently underway, the former mayor said he would develop a policy which embraces senior participation in all levels of the city's decision making.
"Logan needs a Future City Seniors Policy to give senior residents the opportunity to vocalise their needs and vision for our community," Mr Freeman said.
"My Mayor Seniors' Roundtable Reference group would allow seniors to do exactly that.
"This would deliver transparency and openness when council designs services, policies and programs that affect their lives, and build a more empowered and stronger community.
Mr Freeman said a seniors policy would support large swathes of people in suburbs like Park Ridge, where 18 per cent of residents are elderly and isolated.
"When you look at our community, you'll note that almost one third of Logan City Council residents are over 50," he said.
"Combine this with Logan Central and Kingston residents who are over 55 and unemployed, and almost one in five Park Ridge residents are over 65 and live alone.
"You can begin to see how grossly underutilised our senior residents might be."
Logan is home to a number of Queensland Seniors Week celebrations.
The Greenbank 50 Plus Club took part in a special trivia session at the Greenbank Community Centre on Tuesday, August 20.
A seniors event was also held at the Bethania Community Centre on Monday, August 19.
Mr Freeman was the mayor of Logan council for six years up to 2006.
