THREE Logan SES members and a Tasmanian resident have been awarded with a Group Bravery Citation after risking their lives to save a family stranded in flood waters as Cyclone Debbie struck.
Years of training were put to practice when the SES members were called to rescue three people from the roof of their Luscombe home on March 31, 2017.
James Ferguson, Samuel Fouras, Christopher Holloway and Claire Browning got inside a rescue boat and navigated floating debris and damaged power lines in the darkness,
As the boat was secured near the home, Mr Ferguson jumped over the railing onto the balcony where a family member was found.
Mr Ferguson crawled along an awning until he found a woman and two children on the roof.
They were guided onto the balcony, given life jackets and put on board the rescue boat.
Floodwaters dislodged the house from its foundations and pushed it down the river moments later.
Mr Ferguson said they did what anyone would have done in their position.
"We are wearing this award on behalf of our members who would have done what we did," he said.
"This was the first rescue mission for us. It has never been done before or since."
At the time, Mr Ferguson had seven years of emergency training which made all the difference.
"We never felt like we couldn't cope, it was only when the sun came up and we saw what we did when it really came home to us."
Logan SES is seeking more members to join its ranks, particularly in Jimboomba and surrounding areas.
