"Fluoride is poison and root canals give you cancer!"
"I'm paying off your mortgage and Ferarri."
Dr Camelia Maris of J1 Dental has heard first hand how easy it is for clients by be misguided when it comes to dentistry.
"We are living in a social media age and it is far too easy for dental misconceptions like these to spread and colour people's attitudes towards dentistry," she said. "That's why at J1 we take the time to educate patients."
And rest assured, Camelia does not drive a Ferrari!
"I can entirely empathise with families and understand that dentistry is expensive. I try and make it as affordable as well as financially attainable for those that thought they could never have good teeth."
At J1, Jimboomba, each new patient is allocated an hour minimum for their first examination, records and clean appointment at capped pricing regardless of the number of photos, x-rays or tests needed.
Camelia advises that with dentistry, nothing lasts forever and there are no quick, cheap solutions.
"In fact, the best approach to dentistry is to be preventative. Six monthly scale and cleans to remove tartar as well as impeccable oral hygiene is the secret to amazing teeth," she said.
Avoiding the 'filling cycle' by looking after your teeth is also advised and is much better for your wallet.
J1 has a strong 'minimally invasive' approach, understanding that natural is best.
Dentists at the clinic have a firm faith in the mouth's natural ability to heal itself with good hygiene practices.

Camelia understands that everyone wants a pain free, comfortable experience at the dentist and she believes that any methods that cause pain are 'historic'.
"Believe it or not it's actually a priority for me for you to be pain free as well. I can't do my job properly and efficiently if you are squirming around and in tears!"
Camelia and the team at J1 are nothing short of amazing according to client Phillip Rains.
"A month ago I needed my wife to coerce me into the clinic to see 'her' dentist due to a fear I had held onto for many years," he said. "I was made to feel welcomed and at ease from the very start. Dr Camelia was particularly sensitive to my phobia and I honestly feel that due to her professionalism, patience and compassion I have overcome my fear."
Camelia graduated from Griffith University with the Award for Academic Excellence and has a special interest in paediatric dentistry and preventative methods.
Outside of dentistry, she enjoys cooking, reading, beach exploring, and weightlifting at the gym.
