WORK to fix dangerous turnoffs and upgrade the South Maclean section of the Mount Lindesay Highway is underway.
The $14 million project will include installation of traffic lights at the Stockleigh Road intersection and construction of service roads.
Service roads will provide access to Wharf Street and Casuarina Road, allowing for the closure of two risky turnoffs.
Logan MP Linus Power said upgrades were necessary to make the South Maclean section of the highway safer.
"These improvements will allow motorists to access the Hindu temple and nearby properties more safely, reducing conflict with through traffic," Mr Power said.
"Locals were frustrated turning in and out of Stockleigh Road and Crest Road towards Park Ridge or Jimboomba and these solutions will make their travel a lot easier and safer.
"As part of these works, right turn lanes will be constructed, new guardrails will be installed and the speed limit at this point will be lowered to 80 km/h."
The project is expected to be complete by mid 2020 following completion of the North Maclean highway upgrades early next year.
Mr Power said the South Maclean project was one of five projects designed to at reduce fatal and serious injury crashes on the Mount Lindesay Highway.
"These safety and capacity upgrades of the highway continue the four-lane road network from Browns Plains," he said.
In the 2019-2020 state budget, funding was allocated for an ambulance station to be built at Munruben along the Mount Lindesay Highway in the first half of 2021.
The budget also allocated $45.7 million for four lane road widening from Rosia Road to Stoney Camp Road and Camp Cable Road to Johanna Street.
