MOTORBIKES took to the open road from Brisbane to Jimboomba via the Scenic Rim in support of the annual Maya's Mater Little Miracles charity ride, which saw 148 bikes, supporters and pillion passengers set off from Greenbank Shopping centre on Sunday morning.
Organiser Brad Hashimoto said the ride was held on the first Sunday in August and this was the third year the group had held the event since his then ten-year-old daughter suggested the approach to fundraising.
"We went out on a charity walk with Jimboomba police officer Terry Armstrong to raise funds for Mater's Little Miracles and Maya said we would probably get more money if we rode bikes instead of walking around with a collection tin," Mr Hashimoto said.
"The first year we were not very well organised but we still raised about $3100 with about 50 riders taking part, the second year we had about 100 motorbikes and made just over $3700.
"This year, thanks to corporate sponsors and 148 riders we managed to raise $7417.
"Every cent goes to the Mater, this year it will be for research projects, equipment and care for premature babies."
Mr Hashimoto said he was thankful to the local businesses who donated raffle prizes.
"We had about 15 great raffle prizes this year," he said.

Boonah cafe owner Mark O'Shaughnessy said the group made an impressive entrance into Boonah for morning tea on their way to the finish line at Jimboomba..
"It was a busy morning at Flavours Café but it was great to see all the bikes out for such a good cause," he said.
Organisers have already started a Facebook events page for next year's ride and Mr Hashimoto has invited any businesses who would like to sponsor the event to call him on 0427 003 944
