THE Cedar Grove wastewater treatment plant site will be home to community assets, including a Landcare facility, as part of a Logan City Council master plan.
This comes as the Cedar Grove wastewater treatment plant Community Reference Group, Economic Development Queensland, and council's project team reached agreement on a non-functional scope of works for stage one of the master plan.
It includes a Logan River bank restoration zone, pedestrian trail, community area and informal groves of tall trees to enhance the area's bushland character.
Logan City Council has also revealed the site would be named as the Cedar Grove Environmental Centre.
Cedar Grove Landcare Group president and environmental scientist Rachel Hughes said she had a bold vision to make a future Landcare centre successful.
"The vision I started with for Landcare was to provide community space and a place to meet," she said.
"Looking at the wetlands and the maintenance of the site ... once the negotiations go through the potential will be enormous to create jobs and provide training."
A timeline to create the Landcare centre is yet to be determined.
Cedar Grove Landcare is currently providing opportunities for Jimboomba and Scenic Rim trainee groups through the community support organisation Belong.
The trainees complete a list of modules and learn practical skills relating to bush land rejuvenation, flood mitigation, horticulture and landscaping.
When the course is complete, the trainees graduate with a certificate I qualification in Conservation and Land Management.
Mrs Hughes said the Jimboomba team of trainees had completed a third of their course and were learning valuable skills on the job.
"They have had an experience they wouldn't normally get for a Certificate I in Land Management and Conservation and it gives them a feel for whether it is the right choice for them," she said.
"They learn different things on different sites. When you learn more you have a better chance of applying your skills in the real world which gives you the best chance of getting a job."
