JIMBOOMBA sprintcar racer Kristy Bonsey has been recognised as the most improved driver in Queensland.
Bonsey, 24, secured the accolade at the annual Sprintcars Queensland presentation night on Saturday, June 29.
The season started with Bonsey attempting to finish among the top ten for the East Coast logistics Series at the Archerfield Speedway.
While she failed to qualify in the first two feature races, Bonsey's season picked up steam and was transferred into round three of the series going on to drive from position 19 to nine.
Bonsey went on to qualify in every other feature race and even clinched a few top five and top 10 finishes.
Her newfound consistency paved the way for Bonsey to exceed her own expectations and place seventh, finishing in the top 10 of the series.
Bonsey thanked her dad and Russell and pit crew member Ash for their support during the season.
"We gave ourselves a big goal this season and we were very committed to attaining it, so to be able to accomplish that is a massive achievement for the whole team," she said.
"On a personal level, I was extremely honoured to receive the Most Improved Driver award, but it's really an award to share with the team, with all of their hard work and support making it much easier for me to do my job out on track."
As the 2019-2020 season approaches, Bonsey will update her Eagle car engine and looks forward to experiencing the extra horsepower.
