CONSTRUCTION work is underway for modern health and veterinary training facilities at the Loganlea TAFE campus.
Training and Skills Development minister Shannon Fentiman and Logan MP Linus Power toured the $3.16 million construction project last week.
Mr Power said the Loganlea TAFE was conveniently located next to Logan Hospital which has a vocational placement agreement for TAFE nursing students.
"The upgrade to nursing practical spaces will include interactive observation rooms, mini hospital wards and viewing laboratories as well as early childhood care training facilities," he said.
"Since doubling the subsidy to make it $4,000 cheaper to study a Diploma of Nursing in December, the Loganlea campus has seen a 16% increase in enrolments."
Waterford MP Shannon Fentiman said the past year has seen a 19 per cent surge in veterinary training enrolments.
"There are now more than 300 veterinary students studying at Loganlea TAFE," she said.
"Once completed, veterinary students will be able to complete all of their studies solely at the Loganlea campus.
"We will be expanding the existing space used for animal science programs to replicate a veterinary clinic with practical spaces for examination rooms, a surgical suite, animal holding and isolation facilities.
"There is also an imaging suite for x-ray, endoscopy and ultrasounds, grooming (hydro-bathing) facilities and animal training and day care facilities."
Loganlea TAFE's most popular courses include nursing and early childhood education, hairdressing and Certificate III in Animal Studies.
The Loganlea TAFE construction project is expected to be complete in September.
