Brian and Joan Sweet celebrated the milestone on Friday, June 14, with friends at Heritage Park restaurant Cafe@Bliss for lunch.

They married at the Kelvin Grove Church of England in 1958 and celebrated the reception at Carrington Lounge along Wickham Street.

About 40 people including family and friends attended the ceremony.

Mr Sweet said he couldn't ask for a better life partner, particularly in light of his health concerns.

"Joan is so very kind. She has a big job looking after me because I am a big baby who can not do much," he said.

"We always plan things together. We bought houses and blocks of land and kept them for 12 months at a time before selling them to make a bit of money."

The couple recently posed for photographs with their family, including Graham, 50, who is planning to get married at Mundoolun in March next year.
