TAMBORINE Mountain artists and students have jumped on board a plan to embrace technology without the ugly or boring infrastructure that sometimes goes with it.
Scenic Rim Regional Council teamed up with Tamborine Mountain's creative community to develop an artful way to ensure the National Broadband Network's infrastructure blends into the local landscape.
After a request from Downer, the engineering firm tasked with installing the NBN network on the mountain, council's cultural services team encouraged local artists and school students to submit designs that could add a splash of colour to the cabinets housing NBN's nodes around the Mountain.
Designs by eight current and former students of Tamborine Mountain College as well as five established artists can now be seen on nodes at locations including Kinabalu Drive, Cook Road and MacDonnell Road.
Last month division one councillor Nigel Waistell presented Tamborine Mountain College students with certificates of appreciation on behalf of Scenic Rim Regional Council in recognition of the time and effort that went into the project.
