A WHITEWATER park proposal has moved one step closer to becoming a reality in Logan with an economic feasibility study and site selections to be complete in weeks.
Logan City Council first investigated the possibility of a whitewater park in 2016 and was last year identified in the Logan Destination Management Plan 2018-2022.
Other projects in the plan include a branded hotel, destination holiday park and riverine discovery centre.
If the whitewater park proposal goes ahead, it would be the first of its kind in Queensland and has been earmarked as a "game changer" for Logan City Council's tourism planning.
Logan City Council has worked with American kayaker Scott Shipley to identify potential park locations over the past few weeks.
Mr Shipley owns S2o Design, an engineering company which led the construction of a series of successful whitewater parks globally.
The Olympic-standard whitewater park would be ready in time for for the 2032 Olympic games if south-east Queensland launches a successful bid.
Logan City Council interim administrator Tamara O'Shea said she looked forward to seeing the project go from the drawing board to reality.
"This is an exciting project for Logan, something completely different to any other tourism attraction in the south-east," she said.
The whitewater park has been listed as a priority project because it could take advantage Logan's open space and available land, strengthen the city's potential as a major sporting and recreation hub and leverage off Logan's location between the major markets of Brisbane and the Gold Coast.
