JIMBOOMBA has emerged as a breeding ground for gold medal winning national gymnasts.
Local trampolinist Loki Nardello, 11, came out on top against a field of 13 Australian competitors to win the gold medal in the level five under 13 Double Mini Trampoline event at the Australian Gymnastics Championships at Melbourne in late May.
Nardello also placed sixth in the Youth International Under 13 Individual trampoline division.
This comes after Flagstone gymnast Dylan Parker, 12, won gold for high bar and silver for pommel and overall achievement in the level seven under 13 gymnastics category.
The duo were introduced to the sport through Men's Art Gymnastics before moving on to pursue their strengths.
Nardello has trained as a trampoline specialist for the past two years at Robertson Gymnastics Club at Sunnybank Hills.
He has trained under the guidance of former Olympic judges at the facility and has learned to master a series of complicated tricks while landing into a foam pit.
These include double front and back twist somersaults, half outs and rudy flips.
Mother Lynette Nardello said Loki impressed the Australian Gymnastics Championship judges with the high degree of difficulty demonstrated in his performance.
"There were some high level elements he completed which were a bit harder than what some of the other boys were doing," she said.
"He has a massive passion for trampolining. He just loves it."
Earlier this year, Loki competed at the Queensland State Age Championships in Rockhampton where he won first place in the level five Double Mini Trampoline and Youth International under 13 Individual Trampoline categories.
Loki is working towards qualifying for next year's national championship where he will compete in the under 15 division.
