LOGAN City Council has launched a ball skills program developed by rugby league and Queensland State of origin legend Billy Slater.
The Move It Logan program started on Monday, June 10, and was designed to encourage Logan residents to get at least 30 minutes of heart-rate raising physical activity every day.
The program has been funded for one year to run until June 30, 2020, and aims to encourage people who are not physically active to change their behaviour.
There will be a program break from December 15, 2019 to January 13, 2020.
Activities will not run on public holidays.
It offers free and low cost activities including group fitness sessions, basketball, touch rugby sevens and aerobics.
Logan City Council community services director Katie Barton-Harvey said transport to activities was included the program.
"A key element of Move It Logan would be the provision of regular free buses to several activities," Mr Barton-Harvey said.
"We want to ensure that barriers to fitness are removed wherever possible and providing some transport will help with that."
Under the program, a wheelchair accessible bus with capacity for eight people will run a round trip from Caddies Community Centre in Jimboomba to the Beenleigh Aquatic Centre for adaptive aquatics class from 10am to 10.30am.
The bus will also operate every Thursday from Caddies Community Centre to Meakin Road, Meadowbrook to get people to adaptive fitness class from 5pm to 6pm.
Move it Logan is funded through a $187,000 federal government grant delivered from Sport Australia and has been developed to suit all ages.
Three to six-year-olds will be able to take part in the basic ball skills program.
Bookings for the bus service can be booked by calling Able Australia on 5600 0760 or by emailing trips.jimboomba1@ableaustralia.org.au.
