LNP member for Forde Bert van Manen defied widespread expectations of losing his seat to pull off a stunning victory on election night and he may be rewarded with a junior portfolio.
It comes as PM Scott Morrison is expected to promote some Queensland MPs who saved his government from defeat by Labor.
Amid reports he could be offered a junior portfolio in a re-elected Morrison government, Mr van Manen would not say if he had a preference
"I held the reasonably senior position as government whip in the last term...I'm not going to speculate. I will serve as the prime minister sees fit," he said.
Australian Electoral Commission figures when the Jimboomba Times went to press showed Mr van Manen's primary vote up to 43.45 per cent while Labor opponent Des Hardman's vote had dropped 7.1 per cent since the last election to 30.54 per cent.
On a two party preferred basis, Mr van Manen leads 57.89 to 42.11, representing a swing of 7.26 per cent.
Mr van Manen told the Jimboomba Times he was quietly confident he would get over the line on election day despite speculation to the contrary.
"The comment made to me at polling booths by a few people was that the silent majority... the quiet Australians as the prime minister puts it, they had their say on the things that concern them," he said.
"They don't believe the government should have their hand in their pocket...they just want to get on with their jobs and don't want the government interfering."
According to the Australian Electoral Commission, the Liberal National coalition is projected to win 77 seats and form a slender majority government.
In Wright, LNP member Scott Buchholz easily retained his seat with 64.14 per cent of the two party preferred vote.
