CANTERBURY College's new principal Daniel Walker will spend the next five years implementing a plan to prepare students for a changing world.
Mr Walker stepped into the shoes of outgoing head of college Donna Anderson, who was at the helm of Canterbury College for the past 15 years.
He brings 22 years of experience in the field of education and moved from his Deputy Principal position at Adelaide's Seymour College over the Easter holidays.
Mr Walker said this year would be spent developing a five-year strategic plan to help students adjust to a volatile, uncertain and complex world.
"It will be an opportunity to re-think what we need to do to make our students ready for the world," he said.
"The things that are priorities for me are making sure our students leave here with a really clear set of entrepreneurial skills.
"It does not just mean being able to sell something. I mean being able to develop an idea and finding a way of monetising that idea and using it to support themselves.
"About 60 per cent of students in high schools today will have to make their own jobs for themselves at some stage in their career.
"Crafting a living in 2030 or 2040 is not going to be the same as it was in 1930 and 1940."
Mr Walker said community input from parents, students and alumni would inform the cohesive plan for the future.
Canterbury College was ranked among the most elite schools in Queensland and the best in Logan when 2018 OP results were released earlier this year.
The school produced 30 students with OP scores between 1-5 and three of those went on to secure an OP1.
Mr Walker said there were a lot of pull factors which drew him to take on the job of principal at Canterbury College.
"I think it is a high achieving school academically, in sport, music and the art...we have got a lot of talented students and our programs are known around the country," he said.
"The biggest strength I see is the connection between teachers and students...the kids here have a good experience.
"It is one of the largest Anglican schools in Queensland and presents a great opportunity for me professionally as well."
Mr Walker paid tribute to his predecessor Donna Anderson for setting a strong foundation to build on.
"I think Donna has set this school up magnificently...this school has been very lucky to have a (head of college) in place for nearly 15 years because that provides strength, credibility and a strategy which is really clear.
"Her legacy has taken Canterbury College from being a modestly sized school to a very large school which is doing very well."
