QUEENSLAND'S peak motoring body has called on the next Australian government to fund Mount Lindesay Highway upgrades and put Salisbury to Beaudesert passenger rail on the agenda.
RACQ head of public policy Rebecca Michael said projects identified in the Queensland government's ten-year plan for the Mount Lindesay Highway needed to be funded.
"Congestion is so bad on the Mount Lindesay highway that it's down to just 28 km/h in the morning peak," Dr Michael said.
"We need extra lanes on the Mount Lindesay Highway, between Browns Plains and Jimboomba.
"We also need to see the Salisbury to Beaudesert passenger rail corridor investigated. It could give locals a public transport alternative to the Mount Lindesay Highway, reducing congestion by providing passengers a rail connection to Brisbane and the Gold Coast."
Logan City Council planned to hold a 'Meet the Candidates" forum at the Logan Entertainment Centre this morning to lobby for commitments as part of the #FairShare4Logan campaign.
The forum was cancelled in the wake of the suspension of seven councillors facing Crime and Corruption Commission charges.
The Jimboomba Times is seeking further comment from federal candidates seeking to represent the Forde and Wright electorates.
More to come.
