A THEATRE group is petitioning Logan City Council to build a performing arts space at Logan Village.
Village Green Theatre Group president Sandra Koehler said members had been rehearsing in and performing at community halls that were not set up for stage shows.
Lighting and sound equipment, acoustic paneling and window coverings were the types of equipment that needed to be hauled in for shows.
Stage heights also varied, with platforms sometimes so low that audience members towards the back could not see or hear properly.
Ms Koehler said a purpose-built facility at the town's village would inject performing arts into the area.
The facility and its shows could be part of a council events strategy designed to attract more visitors to Logan Village, she said.
"It is in council's plan to reactivate the village green," she said.
Ms Koehler said the theatre group, which was formed last year, had spent about $2000 on community hall hire for its last show, Stepping Out.
Production costs were recouped using grant money from Bendigo Bank and ticket sales, but the group faced financial losses if a cheaper performance space could not be found.
The troupe launched a change.org petition this month and are circulating a paper petition to collect signatures for the building.
Ms Koehler said she envisioned the purpose-built space could be used by Village Green Theatre Group as its home performance venue.
Ms Koehler said Village Green Theatre Group were also hosting auditions for its July production of Cafe Murder on Saturday, April 27 at the Old School House from 2pm to 4pm.
She said those interested in auditioning for a part in the murder mystery show could email Cafe.Murder2019@gmail.com.
