YARRABILBA State High School will become a reality next year as the first sod was turned on the $65 million project on Thursday.
Broad Construction has been contracted to build the school which will be one of eight to open in Queensland in 2020.
Education Minister Grace Grace announced Belinda Tregea would be appointed as the school's foundation principal.
"Mrs Tregea brings a wealth of experience, working as a teacher for over 30 years and as principal of Loganlea State High School for the last 10 years," she said.
"I have no doubt she will do a stellar job in leading this new school."
Ms Tregea said she was up for the challenge of starting the school from scratch.
"I am very honoured to be appointed as foundation principal and I'm looking forward to working closely with the community to position the school as secondary school of choice for every Yarrabilba family," she said.
The Education department expects about 300 year seven and eight students will enrol at the school next year with an intake of 1800 students across years seven to 12 anticipated by 2024.
Logan MP Linus Power said building Yarrabilba State High School was fulfilling a 2017 election promise.
"Yarrabilba is one of the state's fastest-growing master planned communities which is predicted to grow by almost 14,000 people by the end of 2031," he said.
"Stage one will feature a junior general learning centre, technology centre, science centre, foog and hospitality centre and a resource centre.
"It will also include a double court sports centre, canteen and sports oval."
Consultation on catchment and enrolment expressions of interests will start mid-year.
