THE Waterford Rugby League Football Club has been promised $1.2 million to build a new club house if Labor wins the upcoming federal election.
High profile South Australian Labor Senator Penny Wong, Labor candidate for Forde Des Hardman and Logan City Councillor Jon Raven visited the facility where the funding was announced on Wednesday, March 13.
The funding will also go towards improving facilities for female players in a bid to promote greater participation from women.
Labor candidate for Forde Des Hardman said the commitment was all about giving young people a fair go at sport.
"Labor's commitment will ensure the mighty demons can build on the success of their ALL GIRLZ program, which last year saw the club field teams in under 14, under 16 and under 18s," he said.
"Labor's funding will enable construction of a proper clubhouse, creating a kitchen, office space, toilets, storage and vastly improved facilities for female players."
Waterford Demons coaching coordinator Mick Sparey said the prospect of a new clubhouse was exciting.
"Our existing clubhouse is old, run down and not usable," he said.
"We will have extra change rooms to suit female players at out club and extra facilities like a new canteen, toilet facilities and other amenities."
The Waterford Demons are one of Logan's largest rugby league clubs, with more than 600 junior and 120 senior members.
Members range from five-years-old through to the Masters division.
Labor also committed $800,000 to the AC Carina Football Club to construct an additional soccer pitch and greater facilities for female players.
The seat of Forde is one of the most marginal in Australia, held by LNP member Bert van Manen with a slim 0.6 per cent margin.
Mr van Manen promised a new MRI licence for Qscan Radiology clinics in Upper Coomera this week.
The MRI licence means patients would be able to access a Medicare rebate for an estimated 5,900 services a year.
