The new-look Beenleigh Aquatic Centre with an indoor heated pool and an outdoor water playground will open with a free family day on Saturday, March 16.
Stage one of the redevelopment plan - part funded by the state government - included the building of a heated indoor pool with a viewing area, kiosk, office, plant equipment, change facilities and a water play area.
Acting mayor Cherie Dalley said there would be entertainment throughout the day.
“Activities include water-safety demonstrations from former Olympic swim coach Laurie Lawrence, aqua aerobics and free swim assessments," she said.
The community will also be able to meet Kids Alive characters Boo and Lil the Lifesaver as well as the 96.5 FM Street Machine team from 11am.
Giveaways will include free ice creams from the Paddle Pop Lion and a free sausage sizzle.
People can also put themselves in the running to win one free term of swimming lessons.
The prize draw will take place from 1.45pm.
Cr Steve Swenson encouraged people to get involved and enjoy the fun.
“The first 50 people through the door from 10am will win a prize pack with swimming cap, goggles and a drink bottle in a swim bag,” Cr Swenson said.
Cr Jennie Breene said it was exciting to be able to provide additional community facilities.
“Learn-to-swim classes will be more readily available with the new centre and this will help to ensure that local children can gain the vital water skills they need,” she said.
Anyone signing up to classes on the day will receive one free lesson in each of term two and three.
