JIMBOOMBA boy Zak Pain is celebrating success after competing at Queensland's barefoot bowl championships.

The 13-year-old won the sub-junior division after notching up a win in the slalom event, which is skiing across wash, and second place in tricks.

The events were held at Queensland Barefoot State Championships at Boyland earlier this month.

Zak's mum Donna Pain said her son's performance in the slalom event helped him accrue enough points to win his age group.

He was now preparing for nationals in March, which he had previously qualified for, she said.

Ms Pain said Zak was trying to refine his tricks, which included holding onto the line with only one hand and waving.

Different tricks needed to be performed in a series for the competition.

"You only have 15 seconds to do tricks," she said.

Zak began skiing when he was just two years old.

He quickly progressed to skiing without skis, using only his feet instead.

He is practising skiing backwards and doing jumps barefoot.
