A LARGE group of Jimboomba's best young athletes won selection to compete at the Little Athletics State Championships in Townsville next month.
This comes after Jimboomba Little Athletics members won 73 medals at the regional championships held at the Queensland State Athletics Centre last week, with 40 athletes aged from under nine to under 17 progressing to state level.
They will compete in events including sprints, long distance running, hurdles, walks, jumps and throwing against the best in Queensland.
Jimboomba Little Athletics club members achieved 195 personal best times with an impressive medal haul including 22 gold, 26 silver and 25 bronze medals.
Regional records were set by Sam Windsor with a 6.06 metre leap in under 16 long jump, Josii Hargreaves with a time of eight minutes 42.7 seconds in 1500m race walk and Sam Howlett with a 45.74 second time in under 15 300m hurdles.
Maddison Aitkin achieved stellar results in the under 17 age group for her last year in the Little Athletics competition, winning five gold medals in 100m hurdles, 300m hurdles, long jump, discus and javelin.
Aitkin has been a member of Jimboomba Little Athletics since she was six-years-old and is transitioning to senior athletics, primarily competing in pole vault.
Other multi-gold medallists included Sam Windsor (under 16 long jump and high jump), Sean Howlett (under 15 300m hurdles and high jump), Josii Hargreaves (Under 16 1500m walk and 300m hurdles) and Izac Addley for under 10 discus and high jump.
Gold medals were also won by Ben Roberts (under 17 javelin), Connor Addley (under 16 javelin), Levi Clare (under 16 1500m), Erin Gallagher (under 14 discus), Bailey Brettell (under 14 200m hurdles), Jack Addley (under 14 javelin), Daniel McKinnon (under 10 70m), Orlando Pharaoh (under 10 200m) and Kayden Hull (under 10 high jump).
Silver and bronze medals were won by Bella Bess, Isla Brimble, Grace Esdale, Grace Freeman, Wyatt Gibson, Georgia Grimsey, Alexia Hannam, Jonas Hannam, Aimee Henry, Jack Henry, Abby Howden, Zygmin Irving, Daniel Jarrett, Kayla Milford, Harry Schultz, Jack Schultz, Ashleigh Storrs, Eloise Storrs, Lachlan Tate, Oliver Watts and Mark Woods.
Alex Hamilton, Taylah Lenz, Taj Mearns, Maddison Neal, Annie Newnam and Laura Saunders all qualified to represent Jimboomba at the state championships.
