LISTENERS were convinced martians were invading Earth when they tuned in to listen a War of the Worlds adaptation broadcast in 1938.
A dance music program had been interrupted with bulletins of odd explosions on Mars, cylinders falling from the sky and the attack of martians.
The hour segment was all make-believe but caused widespread panic among its audience.
Now a Scenic Rim drama group want to recreate the famous broadcast for theatre lovers in a cabaret setting.
BAM Theatre Inc will stage five performances of War of the World: The 1938 Radio Script next month at The Centre, Beaudesert.
The show's opening night is on Friday, March 15 from 7.30pm.
A BAM Theatre Inc spokesperson said all shows would feature music from the 1930s performed by The Bamettes.
"Before we unleash an invading martian army on the world, we will be celebrating the wonderful music of the 1930s with special guests The Bamettes," the spokesperson said.
"These six female singers will be performing classic songs such as It Don't Mean a Thing (If It Ain't Got That Swing) and I Got Rhythm in three-part harmonies."
Drinks would be available for purchase and cheese platters able to be pre-ordered.
Other performances are set for March 16 from 2pm, March 22 from 7.30pm and twice on March 23, from 2pm and 7.30pm.
