INTERNATIONALLY renowned celebrity chef Ainsley Harriott visited Logan’s Global Food Markets on Saturday to shoot footage for an upcoming TV series episode going to air in October.
The Logan markets are one of only six in Australia to feature in Ainsley’s Market Menu on the SBS network.
The diversity of ingredients and produce available at the markets had Mr Harriott spoiled for choice for cooking ideas.
Mr Harriott used halal lamb, kundru, cassava, tumeric, ginger and asian greens to cook three gourmet dishes at his market stall in front of an audience of over 100 people.
The end result was a global green shot and coconut smoothie, Asian lamb patties on char grilled cassava and Ram’s kundru pumpkin vegetable curry.
The vegetable curry was cooked for Shailer Park stallholder Ram Harakh Maharaj who celebrated his 85th birthday.
Mr Harriott said the produce on offer at the Logan markets rivaled some huge street markets in London.
“The food here 9in Logan) was fantastic, fresh and vibrant and I just wanted to cook it,” he said.
“And everyone was so friendly. it was just a brilliant day.”
Stockleigh stallholder Lisa Crooks said she was shocked to meet the celebrity chef.
“He’s an inspiration because he makes cooking fun,” she said.
“To have him here is great for the markets because now the world will learn about our special place in Logan.”
Acting mayor Cherie Dalley said Mr Harriott's visit would put the Logan markets on the map.
“We’ve known in Logan for a very long time how special these markets are and now the secret is out as this show will be screened around the world,” she said.
“We hope people are inspired by Ainsley to visit our markets and our city and enjoy all that Logan’s amazing cultural diversity can offer.”
Mr Harriott’s visit comes after Masterchef runner-up Poh Ling Yeow’s appearance in 2017.
Ainsley’s Market Menu will be broadcast in over 130 countries.
