A FLAGSTONE resident’s lobbying efforts for a second access road will receive a ministerial response later this year.
Chris Spruce submitted a petition with 1047 signatures to Jordan MP Charis Mullen on Friday, January 17 after more than a month of campaigning for local public support.
Ms Mullen said the submission would be sent to Infrastructure and Planning Minister Cameron Dick for consideration and reply in due course.
The campaign heated up as a bushfire sparked from New Beith Road west to Undullah Road on January 27.
Mr Spruce said Flagstone residents would be left with nowhere to go in the event of a natural disaster if the only exit out of town was via Homestead Road.
“With the fires over (January 27), I went up to very end of Flagstone in the new estate where you could see the fires and got another 100 signatures,” he said.
“What happens if a fire comes from Cedar Vale or Jimboomba? We have no access west from Flagstone and only one road to the east.
“I will keep getting signatures...this is not the end.”
A State Development Department spokesperson said Economic Development Queensland was working with Flagstone developer PEET on further stages of development, including another access road.
A decision is expected on the matter in the middle of this year.
Flagstone is tipped to accommodate 120,000 people in 50,000 dwellings when fully developed, prompting further calls for more infrastructure to keep up with population growth.
