PARK Ridge Active Riding Group has celebrated the completion of its long awaited toilet block equipped with change and first aid rooms for disabled members.
The project was made possible with support from Logan council and the Queensland government’s Get in the Game grant.
PRARG president Kay Paulsen met with Logan MP Linus Power, councillor Trevina Schwarz, grant writer Lisa Kirkup and stakeholders on Sunday to celebrate the milestone.
Ms Paulsen said the upgraded facility would make an enormous difference to the club.
“When the club moved to the grounds in 1987 and the original toilet block was built in 1990, the club never envisaged that it would be as big and popular as it is today,” she said.
“With para equestrian dressage on the increase, the need for a disabled toilet for both competitors and spectators is important.
“Also, under the new Biosecurty Act...these changes meant that PRARG needed facilities for changing and showering if a biosecurity event happened at the grounds.”
Park Ridge Active Riding Group first applied for a state government Gaming Community Benefit Fund grant for upgraded toilet facilities in 2005 but was unsuccessful.
Ms Paulsen said Logan council highlighted the toilet block as a priority project in 2016 and assisted with the process of applying for the successful Get in the Game grant.
PRARG was one of 11 clubs to obtain funding for projects.
The toilet block was jointly funded with $100,000 from the Queensland government, $105,837 from Logan City Council.
PRARG also contributed funds to the project.
