Former world champion boxer and one-time Logan schoolteacher Jeff Horn will be the guest of the honour at the city’s Australia Day ceremony.
Horn taught at Springwood State High School and is known as one of the nice guys of boxing, at least outside the ring.
He became the WBO World Welterweight Champion after beating Filipino legend Manny Pacquiao at Suncorp Stadium in 2017 and has a 19-1 record in professional boxing.
Horn is also an Australia Day Ambassador, an anti-bullying campaigner and a sought-after guest speaker.
City of Logan Acting Mayor Cherie Dalley welcomed the return of one of the city’s sporting heroes.
“Jeff is a credit to himself and to his sport and we’re honoured to have him back,” Cr Dalley said.
“Throughout his amazing career he has always been humble and has never forgotten the people and the places from his past.
“It’s exciting that such a fine Australian will help Logan celebrate our national day.”
Horn said Logan has a special place in his heart.
“I have some fond memories teaching and fighting in Logan and I’m grateful to the City of Logan for extending this invitation,” he said.
“I take pride representing my country in the ring so I’m looking forward to celebrating our national day with so many other proud Australians.”
