THE Greenbank Gators Swimming Club is overflowing with success stories as the new year begins.
Young swimmer Zoe Willocks was honoured to receive the Junior Excellence Award from Swimming Australia for achieving a tier four time in 50 metre backstroke last season.
Willocks was also one of a select group of swimmers chosen to attend a Junior Excellence Swim Clinic.
In the final two months of 2018, Kai Challen, Riley Kent, Isla Brimble and Madison Head won medals at competitions held at the Acacia Bayside, Commercial Summer Transition and Waterworx Summer Swimming Clubs.
Gators were also in form at the Greenbank State School Swimming Carnival on December 5 with Zoe Willocks winning nine-year-old age champion and Madison Head claiming 10-year-old age champion.
Greenbank Gators Swimming Club delegate Bec Head said many other members slashed personal best times and won ribbons for individual events.
“A handful of swimmers have also made qualifying times for upcoming Brisbane Championship meets including the Vorgee Brisbane Sprint Championships (in February) and the McDonalds Brisbane Junior Metropolitan Championships,” she said.
“This is a fantastic achievement for these swimmers as the qualifying times are of a high standard.”
Gator juniors are preparing for McDonalds swim clinics and district and regional swimming competitions later in 2019.
Ms Head said the recently formed club was moving into 2019 with momentum.
“It is anticipated that several Greenbank Gator Swimming Club members are in line to receive JX awards for the 2018/19 swimming season - which will be awarded in late 2019,” she said.
(The club) continues to power on with membership swelling to close to 40 competitive swimmers at the close of Club Night for 2018.”
Club night will resume on Tuesday, January 29, from 5.45pm to register new swimmers.
