AS we enter the 2019 season, Flagstone Netball Club are still reveling in the successful spell they had last year.
The club fielded six cadet teams, four intermediate teams and four modified teams in the Jimboomba Netball Association Saturday competition.
Flagstone won all three cadet division Grand Finals in 2018, which is an awesome effort for the club.
“We hope to repeat it again in 2019,” said club president Katrina Seery. “But we have to maintain our strong player base; giving our young players the greatest opportunity to develop their skills and to learn the game.”
That starts with the Suncorp NetSetGo program where kids as young as five are taught the basic skills in a fun, positive way.
This enables them to gain a foundation to build on and encourages them to enjoy the game of netball for many years to come.
The NetSetGo program provides kids aged five to 10 with the skills and rules of netball in a structured way.
This allows the children to build on their developing skills over a number of years.
It uses a smaller ball, lower goal posts and modified netball rules.
Playing sport can help kids develop confidence and discipline, learn to work as a team and helps instill resilience.
Each player who registers in the NetSetGo program receives a registration pack with includes a t-shirt and netball.
“We couldn’t provide a netball program without the dedication of coaches and volunteers,” Katrina said.
“In 2018, PEET Flagstone provided us a grant that allowed our club coaches to undertake training and further develop their coaching skills.”
The 2019 netball season commences on March 9 with a sign-on day at the courts on February 2 and 9.
If you have a budding Firebird who would like to play netball this year, come down to the South Street, Jimboomba courts on sign-on day.
It will be a busy and exciting day for all and players aged 5 to 17 years are welcome to register.
