Bird enthusiasts will be able to pick up quality budgerigars from experienced breeders at the 2019 Prestigious Budgerigar Auction on Sunday.
Presented by The Australian Budgerigar Society at the Community Hall on Fryar Road at Eagleby, viewing will commence at 8am, with the auction getting underway at 9.30am.
There are 304 premium budgerigars to go under the hammer, with more than 34 of the most experienced breeders from Queensland, New South Wales and Tasmania supplying birds.
President Wayne Robinson said it was one of the society’s major events for the year, with bidders travelling from as far as Orange to snap up the wide variety of budgerigars, including dominant and recessive pieds and the iconic Australian golden face.
He said top quality show budgerigars typically sold for $30-$40 at auction and birders were sure to score a great deal on Sunday.
“Come along, take a look, pick up a bargain and talk to the breeders,” he said.
“They are more than happy to share their knowledge.”
Mr Robinson said the society, which was founded in 1957 and is celebrating its 62nd anniversary in 2019 was a proud local institution and membership numbers had grown from 36 in 2015 to 116 today.
He said the club also boasted 26 juniors, which was the largest contingent of young people in any club of its kind in Australia.
“We don’t care if you’ve got one pet budgie or you’re a backyard breeder, or you’re a show exhibition breeder,” he said.
“Our club is for everyone.
“And we’re all after the same thing – that’s providing people a platform to learn about budgies and to teach and share knowledge.”
