HORSE riding enthusiasts can test their skills at the Greenbank Pony Club’s Come and Try Day next month.
The event is an opportunity for riders interested in joining the club to test the facilities and get an understanding of how a typical muster day works.
Greenbank Pony Club president Mark Harrison said the Come and Try Day would test riders through four lessons covering footwork, show jumping, cross country and dressage.
All riders are expected to bring a halter, lead rope, water bucket and hay to attend the event on Sunday, February 3, from 8.15am.
Non-members are required to pay a $7.70 day fee.
Riders looking to join under the age of 18 are required to have a parent or guardian with them.
Mr Harrison said 2018 had been a successful year for the club’s 90 members.
“To me, the highlight was the overall improvement we see in the young riders from when they first present at the start of the year to how they perform at the end of the year,” Mr Harrison said.
“A majority of the kids have made a remarkable improvement.”
Mr Harrison said prospective riders of all ages could enjoy a range of benefits from getting involved with like-minded people at a club.
“They will be able to spend time with kids and peers at the same age,” he said.
“The idea of the pony club is to give riders an experience and general introduction with the different disciplines.
“As riders improve in their ability they can get involved in competitions and it is that competitive part that really helps people’s riding abilities.”
The Pony Club offers riders opportunities to compete at state and national levels.
Mr Harrison said riders frequently competed over school holiday periods.
“We have good representation from our club with attending competitive events and they normally do quite well,” he said.
