JIMBOOMBA has produced the world's best under 20 decathlete, a junior Australian Supercross champion and a wheelchair tennis star among the top 10 in Australia.
These are just a handful of achievements which have culminated in a year of success for Jimboomba and surrounding suburbs in 2018.
Jimboomba Little Athletics champion Ashley Moloney was easily among the cream of the crop this year.
The 18-year-old decathlete won selection to compete at the World Under 20 Decathlon Championships in Finland on July 13.
In October this year, he was crowned Logan’s sportsperson of the year.
Early in the year, swimming star Mollie O’Callaghan proved she would be a name to watch after vying for Commonwealth Games trials.
The 13-year-old Greenbank teen was the youngest competitor to make the final stage of the trials and was ranked sixth for 50 metre backstroke.
After falling short of victory in 2017, Jimboomba Supercross racer Jake Cuka claimed his final opportunity to win the Australian Supercross Championship junior lites cup.
Cuka was competitive in the five round series which started at Jimboomba in September and finished at Sydney on November 10, but was trailing in second place on the ladder ahead of the final race in Sydney.
The AFL Park Ridge Pirates also had a year to remember, winning their first premiership in division two against the Beenleigh Buffaloes.
Park Ridge has been elevated to division one status for the 2019 season following their grand final win.
FuturePros Tennis Academy’s coaching efforts have paid off for wheelchair tennis player Kyle Haslam.
The 16-year-old Emmaus College student is ranked among the top 10 tennis players in Australia.
Haslam is eyeing the international Australian Open Series in Melbourne next year with aspirations to rank in the world’s top 40 next year.
