IS Doug Peall Logan’s favourite garbo? Residents of Verdi Street, Yarrabilba, think so.
Parents and kids gathered to give Mr Peall a literal Christmas cheer during his weekly round emptying wheelie bins on Friday, December 7.
They presented him with a Christmas hamper to thank him for his friendly service.
“Doug’s always smiling and waving to the kids in the street,” said Verdi Street resident Libby Hamilton.
“They look forward to his truck coming down the street and emptying the bins. He always gives the kids a friendly toot as he drives past.
“He’s like a rock star to us. We just wanted to give him a little gift to say thank you.”
Mr Peall has been driving garbage trucks out of the JJ Richards depot, Beaudesert, for about two years.
He said he took a positive attitude into work.
“It’s about treating people with respect,” he said.
“The job can be challenging at times but when you are dealing with the public on a daily basis, a friendly attitude makes for a much more positive experience.
“It was great to be acknowledged by the residents in Verdi Street and quite humbling to be given a gift.
“From now on Verdi Street will always have a special memory for me when I do my collection rounds.”
Logan parks, animals, environment and waste chair Councillor Jennie Breene said Logan’s waste collection services take pride in delivering a consistent high-level of service.
“Every day across Logan we have hundreds of workers doing their best for our residents and it is great to see that their efforts are appreciated,” she said.
Councillor Laurie Koranski said the respect and friendliness Mr Peall afforded customers was appreciated by the residents of Yarrabilba.
“His positive and professional approach to his work typifies the many community champions we have across Logan,” she said.
