AN innovative Logan City Council collaboration with the Queensland Police Service has been recognised for its ingenuity by the state’s peak local government group.
The Local Government Association of Queensland presented Logan City Council with the Best Collaboration prize for the Phone Down, #EyesUp campaign at its Recognition of Best Practice awards earlier this month.
The campaign, which focused on a younger audience, was designed to reduce robbery offences near train stations by using social media to raise awareness of personal safety.
Judges noted a 35 per cent reduction in reported offences as an indication of the campaign’s effectiveness.
Lifestyle and community chair Councillor Steve Swenson said the award was well deserved.
“Councils across Queensland are always creating memorable social media campaigns so for ours to be recognised as the best collaboration is quite an achievement,” Cr Swenson said.
“The award is appreciated but it’s the reduction in criminal offences that is the real win here.
“Phone Down, #EyesUp is another example of how the council is making Logan safer by adopting innovative thinking to deliver real quality-of-life outcomes.
“Congratulations to everyone who worked on the campaign – the award is a fitting recognition of your efforts.”
