CLOSED: The Browns Plains Beds R Us store has closed down, along with seven other stores in south-east Queensland.

The stores were all owned by one person and the closure was expected to affect fewer than 20 people.

A Beds R Us spokesperson said the owner had begun trading as Beds R Us at Capalaba in 2009.

According to the spokesperson, the owner had said it had been enjoyable running eight Beds R Us stores in Brisbane.

“It was with a heavy heart I had to tell my staff, my suppliers and the other independent owners of Beds R Us stores around that country that it was time for me to go into voluntary administration,” the owner said.

Seven stores in the region will stay open.

The other stores that have closed are Capalaba, Kippa-Ring, Lawnton, Mitchelton, Morayfield, North Lakes and Virginia.

The Beds R Us spokesperson said the stores were not franchises, as the business operated as a network of independently licensed members.

Across the country, Beds R Us has 81 independently owned stores.

The Beds R Us spokesperson said the owner’s professionalism, dedication and hard work had made a positive impact on the communities served by the stores for many years.

“We also apologise on behalf of these stores to the customers who have been affected,” the spokesperson said.

“An administrator SV Partners has been appointed and the Beds R Us national support office is working to resolve outstanding orders where possible.”
