WOODHILL Rural firefighters will postpone their 50th anniversary celebration as windy, scorching conditions have sparked multiple fires between Cedar Vale and Bromelton.
Queensland Fire and Emergency Services issued a severe fire danger warning for south-east Queensland with a total fire ban in place.
First officer Ben Heilbronn said winds exceeding 55km/h and hot conditions were putting people’s homes at risk.
“This makes fires very dangerous and very unpredictable when wind is gusting from different directions,” he said.
“We are asking people to be mindful of their area and create a Bushfire Survival Plan for their properties.
“Our station is open and fully manned today.”

The rural fire brigade’s 50th anniversary was due to be held on Saturday, December 1, with QFES Commissioner Katarina Carroll expected to pay tribute to volunteers.
Mr Bronheimm said the priority over the weekend would be keeping people safe and protecting homes.
“We need to free up resources...as much as we would like to celebrate the anniversary we need to be mindful and postpone it,” he said.
A revised 50-year anniversary date is yet to be revealed.
Mr Heilbronn said Jimboomba, Cedar Vale, Cedar Grove and Flagstone were considered smoke impacted due to a large grass fire which has burned at Undullah for the past four days.
“While you will smell smoke, properties are not under threat at the moment in these areas,” he said.
“The most immediate threat is to residents at Mount Elliot Road, Undullah Road and Wild Pig Creek Road.”
