THE stormy weather predicted by the Bureau of Meeorology has hit the Scenic Rim, hopefully with more bark than bite.
Thunder, lightning and heavy rain hit Kooralbyn just before 3.30pm today after the Bureau of Meteorology warned that, at 3:10 pm, severe thunderstorms were detected on the weather radar near Esk, the area northwest of Esk, Mount Barney and Mulgowie. These thunderstorms were moving towards the northeast.
They are forecast to affect Laidley, Gatton and Lake Somerset by 3:45 pm and Beaudesert, the area between Boonah and Beaudesert and Mount Nebo by 4:15 pm.
Damaging winds and large hailstones are likely.
Queensland Fire and Emergency Services advises that people should:
* Move your car under cover or away from trees.
* Secure loose outdoor items.
* Seek shelter, preferably indoors and never under trees.
* Avoid using the telephone during a thunderstorm.
* Beware of fallen trees and powerlines.
* For emergency assistance contact the SES on 132 500.
