FORDE MP Bert van Manen has welcomed NBN Co’s plan to increase data allowances for people using Sky Muster satellite services in regional areas.
Mr van Manen said people living in regional parts of Australia had the same internet requirements as those living in cities.
“With regional Australia producing 70 per cent of Australia’s exports with just 30 per cent of the population, increased data capacity is important to ensuring we build on our economic success,” he said.

“By removing the data cap, it will allow households to go about their daily internet tasks like checking email, searching for information and ordering online without any hesitation about reaching their data limit.”
The revamped Sky Muster Plus service will provide unmetered monthly data for web-browsing, email and software updates when available in 2019.
Users will be able to burst to download speeds above 25 megabits per second when there is capacity on the network.
Mr van Manen said 98 per cent of premises in regional areas can access NBN services or have network construction underway.
