ALLIED health services have shown significant recent growth in South Logan, driven by a number of practitioners calling this area home.
With a population increase, including Jimboomba, Yarrabilba, and Logan Village, local products and services have also grown.
Not long ago there was a local GP, dentist and a few patchy services, meaning people who needed to access further services had to travel significant distances.
These days, there is a raft of local services such as physiotherapy, speech therapy, podiatry, audiology, dietetics, psychology, exercise physiology, massage and occupational therapy.
Apart from the benefits of less travel for patients, local allied health providers are connected with local doctors, hospitals and other service providers leading to improved patient outcomes.
Lorelle Savage of LS Speech Pathology sees many patients that access multiple services.
“We often work with other therapists and doctors to co-ordinate care for local clients to ensure all therapies work together to achieve the best outcome for our patients,” she said.
According to Lorelle, the smaller practice size often means the owner of the business is actively involved in patient care and is often the principle practitioner.
Audiologist Sue-Ann Maxwell is principal of All Things Hearing, operating in multiple suburbs in Logan South.
She believes that all local allied health providers should provide high quality patient care and encourages people to ask for a local referral from their GP or to contact a local provider directly.
"My focus is ensuring that we achieve the best possible outcome for each client, based on their individual needs. Working in a specialised field, and in a smaller community, a reputation for quality results, and happy, satisfied customers is everything," Sue-Ann said.
Clint Chrzanowski and Philip Chan are owners of Resolve Health in Logan Village, which has expanded over the past five years to include physio, podiatry, massage and speech therapy.
Resolve Health has also invested in shockwave therapy for treatment of chronic tendon conditions, and real time ultrasound for muscle rehabilitation.

"The real time ultrasound allows us to give immediate feedback when rehabilitating deep stabilising muscles in patients with lower back pain,” said Clint.
Resolve Health are excited to announce an expansion next year to include a specialised exercise clinic offering pilates, exercise physiology and group classes.
Lorelle added, it is important to note that all allied health practitioners must be appropriately qualified and registered to practise.
“It’s important to know your therapist is competent. There is a choice when it comes to allied health care.”
