THE Ahmadiyya Stockleigh Bait ul-Masroor Mosque has launched its poppy appeal campaign in support of Sunnybank RSL sub branch two weeks ahead of Remembrance Day.
Sunnybank RSL sub branch vice president Harry Classen visited the mosque on Friday, October 26 when the appeal started.
Mr Classen said it was heartwarming to see widespread support in favour of soldiers who have risked their lives in the past and present conflicts.
“So many people have sacrificed their lives so we can live as a free people in this beautiful country Australia,” he said.
“We still have soldiers overseas in conflict where there lives are in danger to preserve their freedom.”
Brisbane Ahmadiyya Muslim Community director of public affairs and Sunnybank RSL member Ibraheem Malik said he was proud to be a part of the campaign.
“There are Muslims who offered their services in defense of their country,” he said.
“We always try to serve this nation when it is needed in any form. This poppy appeal creates awareness for the Muslim community and wider public that Muslims have contributed in defense of this country.”
Imam Syed Wadood Janud said members of the Ahmadiyya Muslim community would attend the official Remembrance Day ceremony at the Sunnybank RSL at 11am on November 11.
Poppies cost $5 and people can support the cause by getting in touch with Sunnybank RSL sub branch 3344 7423.
