LOGAN City Council has lifted its boil water notice after 48 hours of clear testing after an e.coli scare which affected about 1000 residents at Cedar Vale, Woodhill, Veresdale and Veresdale Scrub.
A council spokesperson said results of the drinking water tests complied with the Australian Drinking Water Guidelines and Queensland Government Public Health Regulations. The water was safe to drink and use for all normal purposes.
Logan issued an alert on Thursday, October 18 at 5.27pm asking residents to boil or use bottled water for drinking until further notice because e.coli had been found in the water.
The council has issued a check list those affected can take about the home during clean up.
These include:
- flush water-using fixtures for one minute, including in-house drinking fountain units – hot and cold
- drain and flush ice-making machines in the refrigerator
- changey bench-top or under bench pre-treatment filters. For large or more complex units, follow the manufacturer’s replacement guide or contact the supplier for further advice
- No changes are required to your hot water system if operating to standard settings 50-60°C. If you have concerns, contact your licensed plumber
- Flush internal service line that services tanks
Council staffers distributed free water and advice to residents on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
Cr Trevina Schwarz said how e.coli found its way into the water supply remained a mystery but praised the council for its quick action.
“When it comes to drinking water you can’t be taking risk,” she said.
She praised residents and council staffers.
“Everyone has pulled together and worked through it all and many delivered with a smile,” she said.
