LOGAN police have warned cyclists risk fines of almost $400 if using a mobile phone on the bike.
This comes after police fined a male $391 and three demerit points after catching him using his phone at George Street, Beenleigh on Tuesday, October 16 at 9am.
A Queensland Police Service spokesperson said it was not acceptable to use a phone while in control of any moving vehicle.
“Using a mobile phone while riding a bicycle or even a horse is the same as using a mobile phone while driving a motor vehicle,” the spokesperson said.
“If you are riding on a road or footpath (road related area) you need to be 100 per cent focused on riding and not distracted by a mobile phone.
“Roads are shared with cars and footpaths are shared with other riders and pedestrians.”
Police warned extra rules applied to P1 and P2 drivers with P1 drivers not permitted to use hands free phones while driving.
